Head across the wooden bridge near the Japanese persimmon. Make a right and you will find the redbud tree across the asphalt path from the Garden of Quiet Reflection. Redbuds bear a variety of colors that change throughout the seasons. Flowers of redbuds are a rosy pink in spring, the leaves a purple and green as summer progresses, and legumes a dark maroon in winter. Related species in the Arboretum’s collection include Cercis canadensis f. alba (white eastern redbud), Cercis canadensis var. mexicana (Mexican redbud), Cercis chinensis ‘Avondale’ (Chinese redbud), Celtis occidentalis (western or California redbud), and Cercis siliquastrum (Judas tree).
