Scientific name: Quercus dentata

Provenance: China, Japan, Korea

At the end of the dirt trail, look straight ahead. The leaves of the daimyo oak are one of the largest of all oak trees, spanning up to a foot long and seven inches across. Daimyo oak does best in full sun and loamy (nutritious) soil. Another very large leaved oak in the Arboretum’s collection is Quercus magnoliifolia (formerly Quercus macrophylla), located in the Mexican plant collection at the west end of Tallac Knoll.
