Head right on the asphalt pathway from the dirt trail; the flowering pear tree can be found at the beginning of a small trail on your right. Flowering pear has a dense crown of branches that are covered in clusters of white flowers during the spring. However, flowering pear is a plant of pure aesthetics; its fruits are hard and bitter and the flowers release a fishy scent. More than 20 varieties of flowering pear are available in the plant trade. They have been popular trees in Southern California landscapes and as a part of street medians.
