18. Chinese Pistache

Provenance: China, Taiwan, Philippines

Colors: Shades of red with hints of purple

Walk on the path until you can see Bauer Fountain across the open grass on the right. Go on the grass to the Chinese pistache. Pistacia, the genus of Chinese pistache, is a part of the cashew family. We have several Chinese pistache trees that are part of the Arboretum’s living collection; the one sold under the trade name of Sarah’s Radiance © is what you see now. The tree forms a distinctive, nearly globose canopy with well-spaced branches. The Los Angeles Arboretum recently added a second variety of Chinese pistache, ‘Keith Davey,’ that has orange crimson to scarlet fall colors.
